Ces activités de recherche s’articulent autour d’une problématique commune, à savoir comprendre le comportement mécanique des matériaux métalliques, en surface et en volume, à travers l’investigation de leur microstructure, aux échelles mésoscopique et microscopique. Atteindre cet objectif peut amener à développer des stratégies expérimentales originales, soit en combinant plusieurs techniques dites classiques pour croiser plusieurs sources d’informations, soit en utilisant des techniques plus récentes comme les mesures de champs de déformation. En termes mécaniques, cette approche est appliquée aux mécanismes d’endommagement, ou au comportement, pour des sollicitations cycliques ou statiques. Les informations obtenues ont vocation à enrichir une modélisation physique, ou à affiner une stratégie de dialogue essais-calculs.
